Truth or Consequences – New Mexico Scenic Tours

Join our small group scenic tours as we visit a mineral bath, explore the Geronimo museum, and shop downtown.

Truth or Censequences, New Mexico Scenic ToursTruth or Consequences is renowned for its year-round wonderful climate, recreational facilities, and mineral waters. The area was considered “neutral grounds” by the Southwestern Indians who long frequented this area for the soothing relief found in the mineral springs. Today, people from all over visit the mineral bath houses and spas for a relaxing getaway and our New Mexico scenic tours participants will have a chance to visit one of these spa houses. Aside from the mineral springs there are many interesting sights in Truth or Consequences. The town is home to the Geronimo Springs Museum which gives information on the surrounding area and the native peoples. The mountain biking trails and hiking opportunities in the surrounding mountains are challenging and rugged. And for those more interested in history or geology there are abandoned mining towns nearby, providing a glimpse at real west ghost towns and some nice rock-hounding. And close by Elephant Butte Lake offers up many outdoor activities, like boating, swimming, and fishing.

Truth or Consequences

After a long and varied history of names (Palomas Springs, Palomas Hot Springs, Las Palomas, and just Hot Springs) the town of Truth or Consequences answered to a publicity stunt in 1950 by the host of a then-popular game show “Truth or Consequences”. The host, Ralph Edwards, said that the town that changed its name to the title of the show would in turn be the site of the anniversary episode. As such every year there is an event known as the “Fiesta”, a town wide celebration including a beauty contest, parade, and stage show. There have been several attempts to change the name again, but it seems that the vast majority of residents are quite fond of it.
